1998 Lecheneaut Nuits-St. Georges Premier Cru Cailles Burgundy France
This Nuits-St. Georges Cailles is an exclusive wine made in the tiny cellars of brothers Philippe and Vincent Lecheneaut. Unfortunately, less than 150 cases are available for the entire world. The 1998 version is loaded with enticing, sweet berry fruit, cola, spice, and toasty oak flavors. Lovely now, the wine will improve over the next five years and continue to drink well through 2010. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $72,00

1998 Lecheneaut Nuits-St. Georges Premier Cru Damodes Burgundy France
The Damodes vineyard is among the finest in Nuits-St. Georges. It is high upon the Cote d’Or slope and contiguous with Vosne-Romanee. Thus it expresses some of the finesse and violet characteristics of Vosne to complement the rich, meaty, dark berry character typical of Nuits. Produced under the tutelage of the up-and-coming Lecheneaut brothers, Philippe and Vincent, this is a lip-smacking, solidly built, and balanced wine for drinking over the next decade. It will likely be best between 2005-2010. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $62,00

1998 Lecheneaut Vosne-Romanee Burgundy France
Brothers Philippe and Vincent Lecheneaut are among an elite group of young vignerons that are setting new standards for Burgundian winemakers. In 1998, they waited longer than most to harvest, ensuring perfect ripeness and flavor in their grapes. This Vosne-Romanee was aged in all new wood, but the oak remains secondary to the wine’s intense, juicy, dark berry fruit. Fine structure and tannins guarantee that this one will last through 2008. It's a terrific rendering for a village level wine. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $49,95

The 1998 Nigl Gruner Alte Reben is refined in its exuberance; it's a big, ancient wine that never misses a step. Definitely not a Viennese waltz, this one is more of a majestic Baroque passacaglia that leaves you in awe of how truly magnificent wine can be.
Price: $38,00

1998 Nigl Riesling Senftenberger Piri Privat Kremstal Austria

1998 Oddero Cabernet Sauvignon Fureste Piedmont Italy
Cabernet from Piedmont never tasted so good. The rich, dark berry fruit accented by bittersweet chocolate, toasty oak, and earth begs to be partnered with chargrilled steak or wild boar. With only 500 cases produced, the boar might be easier to locate than the wine!
Price: $45,00

1998 Paul Cotat Chavignol Les Mont Damnes Loire Valley France
Les Monts Damnes single-vineyard bottling is a refreshing example of Cotat's wines to drink alongside halibut with lime-butter; pasta with shrimp and tomatoes; or ripe Loire Valley goat cheeses. His wines express such depth of flavor and richness; they are like no other Sancerre.
Price: $35,00

1998 Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Burgundy France
Robert Groffier and his son Serge are making some of Burgundy’s finest, most concentrated, fragrant, and vibrant wines thanks to low yields (around two tons per acre in 1998) and raising the temperature toward the end of fermentation for greater extraction. Groffier’s 1998 Bonnes Mares is approachable now with its lovely, intense dark cherry and brambly berry fruit, yet it has the requisite acid and tannin structure to cellar for another eight years. Less than 300 cases produced.
Price: $149,95
