By most anyone enthusiast's measure Cheval Blanc is one of the top properties in the St. Émilion area of Bordeaux. The vineyard here is planted to Cabernet Franc and Merlot, but unlike many of its neighbors Merlot is the minor player. Quite rich in better vintages, the 1989 is just beginning to show the benefits of cellar time.

1989 Ch. Mouton-Rothschild Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac Bordeaux
One of the five First Growths of the Bordeaux region, and one of the world's most sought after wines. Each vintage of Mouton incorporates an original work of art on the label, and in 1989 the artist was Baselitz, a German painter. Our current supply of this wine was purchased directly from a fine English cellar and the wine is in pristine condition. Due to the excellent humidity in this cellar there is some bubbling of the paper label.
Price: $265,00

1989 Ch. Troplong-Mondot St. Émilion Bordeaux
Quality improved significantly here in the mid-1980's, partly as a result of a change in regime in the cellar. The vineyard is planted to Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Malbec (10%). 1989 produced a ripe, full-bodied wine here. It drinks well now, but should also hold well for another 5-7 years.
Price: $209,95

1989 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 1.5 L Rhone France
This is a legendary vintage of Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape. From the beginning, this wine has been adorned with praise from critics worldwide. Now, at a decade of life, the tannins have softened, the color has begun to fade, but the wine is still alive with long, seductive flavors. Some may find the secondary gamey aromas and flavors particularly attractive; others may not. Either way, this is a memorable magnum!

1989 Chateau de la Guimoniere Coteaux du Layon Chaume Loire Valley France
Have it the local way as an aperitif, with foie gras, or with chevre or blue cheese. Decadently delicious when young, this multifaceted wine can age gracefully for 50 years or more. As with superlative Sauternes, the noble-rot affected Chenin Blanc grapes are hand-harvested in successive tries, or pickings. Owned by the Doucet family in Anjou's famous Chaume hamlet, the Chateau de la Guimoniere is the largest producer of Coteaux du Layon Chaume -- in possibly the greatest sweet-white-wine appellation of the Loire Valley. The 1989 is a pleasant, mature wine. Sip it and feel the gorgeous sweet-apple flavors do ballet on your palate with an extraordinarily long finish.
Price: $62,00

The 1989 is a ripe, full-bodied and deliciously drinkable wine that will benefit from another 5 years of cellaring.
