1945 Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases St. Julien Deuxieme Cru Bordeaux France
The deuxieme cru, or second growth, Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases enjoys somewhat of an underdog's reputation in Bordeaux; many will vehemently argue that the house's consistently high quality surely should merit an upgrade to premier cru status. But as we've learned from the 50-plus-year plight of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, such modification to the historic 1855 classification is easier said than done. At any rate, the Leoville-Las-Cases is a first-class wine, and the 1945 is truly a rare gem to be treasured, and moreover, savored. High shoulder fill.
