1998 Robert Groffier Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Burgundy France
Robert Groffier and his son Serge fashioned some of the finest red Burgundies in 1998 and the Chambertin Clos de Beze is one of the jewels of the vintage. It’s produced from low-yielding, 50-year-old vines that yield superbly concentrated and flavorful fruit. This wine boasts powerful black raspberry and dark plum fruit supported by ample, supple tannins and splendid overall balance. Delicious now, the wine will be marvelous in 5-10 years time. Less than 150 cases produced.
Price: $159,95

1998 Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Haut Doix Burgundy France
Robert Groffier’s wines are the epitome of great, modern Burgundy. His wines display ripe, concentrated, flavorful fruit that tastes delicious from the get-go, and have the structure and balance to age well in the bottle. Les Haut Doix is a tiny four-acre vineyard located between the famous premier crus of Les Amoureuses and Les Charmes. Groffier owns enough vines to make about 500 cases of Les Haut Doix annually. The 1998 shows juicy red berry, meaty flavors, and excellent grip that will do well in the cellar for six or more years.
Price: $69,95

1998 Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Sentiers Burgundy France
Famed French poet Gaston Roupnel once said that Chambolle-Musigny was "a wine of silk and lace; supremely delicate with no hint of violence yet much hidden strength." This perfectly describes Robert Groffier’s 1998 Les Sentiers premier cru. Its fragrant aromas and silky fruit will enchant and beguile over the next 10 years.
Price: $69,95

1998 Serafin Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Baudes Burgundy France
Chambolle-Musigny at its best is supple and elegant with multilayered flavors. Christian Serafin turns the knob up on the intensity scale, making this Chambolle rather large-scaled and expansive. In 1998, grapes from the premier cru Les Baudes vineyard reached 13.3 percent potential alcohol, the highest of any wine in his cellar. This exceptional, concentrated Pinot Noir finishes nicely and smoothly and will be a delight to drink over the next eight years. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $65,00

1998 Serafin Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Cazetiers Burgundy France
After his celebrated Charmes-Chambertin, Christian Serafin’s Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers is the best wine in the cellar, plus there’s a little bit more of this one available. We're talking about a gorgeous, elegant, and lavish wine made from 45-year-old vines, but there were only a mere 100 cases produced. Don’t delay, as this will be gone before you know it. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $85,00

1998 Serafin Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Burgundy France
Christian Serafin is a quiet man who is dedicated to quality. Low yields, nearly all organic, minimal movement of the wine, and little use of sulfur are de rigueur here. His Gevrey Vieilles Vignes (old vines) is made from two parcels, one that borders the grand cru Griottes-Chambertin and another next to the premier cru Les Cazetiers. The vines are between 45 and 60 years old. The result is a lip-smacking good, seductive, smoky, meaty, and dark cherry flavored wine that will be wonderful now through 2008. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $59,95

|
1998 Serafin Morey-St. Denis Premier Cru Millandes Burgundy France
Christian Serafin calls this wine a "smaller-scaled Clos de la Roche." It packs a lot of dark berry, mocha, and spicy/meaty flavors along with the requisite tannin structure to enable it to cellar through 2008. Serafin purchased this vineyard land, along with his Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes, a few years ago from Pierre Amiot. The additions reflect an important expansion for the traditionally Gevrey-Chambertin-based Serafin, who is well on his way to stardom in the wine world. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $65,00

1999 Henri Boillot Meursault Premier Cru Les Gouttes Burgundy France
Henri Boillot is the winemaker for his father’s domaine, Jean Boillot. He also buys grapes and bottles the wine under his own name. Henri Boillot has created quite a stir by using custom-made 350-liter Francois Freres barrels for fermenting and aging his wines. These barrels are 50 percent larger than the norm, but his intention is to minimize the wood tannin and flavor while maximizing the textural benefits from the barrel. Henri Boillot’s 1999 Meursault Goutte d’Or is extremely rich and dense with exotic citrus, almond, and deft oak nuances. Enjoy through 2005. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $75,00
