1999 Jean Boillot Savigny-Vergelesses Blanc Burgundy France
Winemaker Henri Boillot (the son of Jean Boillot) says his 1999 whites are, "in the style of ’73 but deeper and fatter. I have great memories of the ‘73s." Henri Boillot’s Vergelesses vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir until 1990 when he replanted the premier cru site with Chardonnay. This wine was aged in half new oak but Henri is controversial for using 350-liter size barrels (50 percent larger than usual) because he likes the textural effects of new oak but not the heavy tannin or wood flavor. This wine offers fine richness and depth, along with green apple and mineral notes. It will be delicious to drink through 2003. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections.
Price: $49,95
